No internet with Speedstream First I want to say thanks to all the people who contribute to these forms and have the patience to put up with novices like myself, I know it can be frustrating sometimes. Second, I don't usually have to post to forms because my questions are most likely buried somewhere inside and with a little digging I can find the answer I am looking for.
However, not this time. I have been playing with ASG for about a week now and can't get a connection to the internet. First a little background. I have a windows home server network with 4 clients.
The network is All was well. I replaced the linksys with the ASG, v7. No wireless without the linksys but deal with that later one problem at a time , I will connect the Linksys to the switch or add another NIC to the ASG to provide wireless.
There is no option for bridge available in setup and has a static ip assigned by me My DSL company says call this phone number for speedstream which has a message saying check the website. I don't want to hijack this thread but I have the same modem on Windstream and I haven't been able to get port forwarding working at all. I've disabled the firewall on the modem, forwarded port 23 to my Linux box, as well as for VNC but I just cannot connect to my server from the internet.
So, Jito - are you now able to connect to your server? This is driving me nuts. I figured out the problem with my vpn over DSL and which may be the problem with others issues. Or this sharing mechanism will at least cut off some of the protocols that aren't as easy to share. I also verified DSL was source of my issues by trying out an actiontec dsl modem.
Joesphcn I think you should program you bridge only mode, it will work a lot better. To program bridge only mode login to the Josephcn port forwarding should work, you say port 23? I already tried switching to bridge mode as part of troubleshooting, thanks for suggestion though.
I finally got port forwarding working on mine According to the docs, the modem is already in bridge mode. Anyway, I think my biggest problem was that while configuring things, I was testing it out by trying to access the server from a PC on the same network. However, I cannot, for the life of me get VNC connected over the internet.
Pretty simple to use if you're looking for an ftp server for Windows. But for some reason, VNC just doesn't work. I'll have to keep hammering away at that one. Anyways, for anyone interested, Here's some screenshots of how I set it up. For reference: Something else must be going on there. At least I've got telnet working, though. There must be something about routing those higher port numbers. Red Flag This Post Please let us know here why this post is inappropriate.
