Students in the Summer Intensive Program come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds. We understand that the program is challenging so our Faculty and Instructional Assistants provide extensive support throughout the summer. The Instructional Assistants, all recent graduates from our program and many having completed Summer Intensive in the prior year, lead review sessions and provide assistance during homework and study time.
This course can only be taken as part of the Certificate in Accounting. The Summer Intensive Certificate in Accounting consists of the following seven upper-level accounting courses compressed into ten weeks. These three courses are worth four credits each. Each course explores the role of the accountant in providing financial accounting information to parties external to a business enterprise.
The first course provides a brief review of basic journal entries and financial statement preparation, then goes on to examine the concepts underlying financial accounting.
These concepts are applied to various accounting contexts throughout the remainder of the course sequence. Although the primary emphasis is on U. Admission to graduate standing in The Paul Merage School of Business is accorded to those possessing an undergraduate degree with an acceptable level of scholarship from an institution of recognized standing. Transcripts from all institutions attended with English translation if needed. Please upload unofficial copies of transcripts for each college and university attended with your online application. Transcripts scanned and uploaded to your application will be used to conduct the initial review. If you are admitted and have decided to attend UCI, you will be asked to submit official transcripts. Candidates may apply to the program if they hold the equivalent of a four-year US Bachelor's degree.
Transcripts from non-US universities should include evidence of degree conferral proof of graduation. International applicants should refer to the International Applicant page for more specific requirements. Two letters of recommendation are required for your application. Letters of recommendation are submitted through the online application system. Two essays are required.
The specific essay prompts can be found on the application. Please answer the questions within the word limit. The Accounting Coursework Verification Form must be completed at the time of application. Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting must be completed or in progress at the time of application submission. If you have not yet completed these courses, but do plan to enroll in them, they must be completed prior to the start of the MPAc Summer Intensive in mid-June. Our program also requires students take Intermediate Accounting I and II, Taxation and Audit before starting in the Fall, either through undergraduate institution, a community college, university extension program or by enrolling in our MPAc summer intensive program.
We ask that all students complete this form to communicate their plans for completing these courses, as well as to get a better sense of your academic record with regard to accounting specific coursework. The MAcc Intensive program is an opportunity for students with degrees in areas other than accounting to complete the MAcc prerequisite coursework in the most efficient way possible.
The program condenses six of the seven MAcc prerequisite courses into 15 credits that are completed over one Summer Semester May through August. The MAcc Intensive program is rigorous and requires that students not work during the program. The program is limited to 25 dedicated students to ensure their success in the program. Graduates from this program are attractive to recruiters as they often have added maturity, diverse backgrounds, and a strong commitment to their coursework.
All students completing the MAcc Intensive and MAcc program have been successful throughout the job recruiting process. The David Eccles School of Business seeks candidates who are professional and ethical. These behaviors are considered when making admission decisions. Candidates are expected to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct and disposition in their interactions with program staff, fellow students, and faculty.
An academic or employment background specifically in business or accounting is not required to apply to the MAcc Intensive program.
